Story of Today's Truths

Today’s Truths gets its name from Sojourner Truth, one of the first women of color activists in the United States. She fought against systematic and social racism/sexism, and dedicated her life to activism. During the 1910s women in America were fighting for suffrage, and Truth was heavily known as one of the few women of color at the front of this fight. She is famously applauded for her trip around the country where she delivered the speech “Ain’t I a Woman?”. She preached that women were just as capable as men, regardless of their race, and deserve equal opportunities. This not only included the right the vote but also the ability to have their own aspirations and goals regarding careers. Truth specifically emphasized how women of color, are forced to struggle in their own communities, due to the misogynistic values in many ethnic cultures.

Her work in furthering women’s rights is extremely significant and Today’s Truths wishes to carry on her legacy. The struggles she spoke of are still prominent today in most minority countries. We take inspiration from her words back then and hope to tackle the problems in these countries step by step. The goal is to open up doors for women in these communities that have never been opened before. The female employment rate is 23.6% in all of South Asia, while for men it is 80%. Women are struggling in these locations and have no way to escape the cycle of poverty they are the stuck in. Truth noticed this issue in the United States, and while America is now doing much better, the minority countries are not. Today’s Truths will not only fund their journeys but give them the tools and guidance necessary to establish themselves independently.
